The other weak move, besides asking a girl to hang out with you, is asking a girl who you started seeing recently, or who yo went out on a date with, how her day is going. This question sounds very innocent. And it is in fact one. You may wonder what can possibly be wrong with asking how her day is going out of simply being polite. There is nothing wrong with it per se, and it surely isn’t offensive. But in many ways, it’s, again, weak and passive. The problem with “How is your day going?” or “How was your day?” – whether you ask it over the phone or by text is twofold: first, it’s generic and cliche, and we hear this question way too often. It doesn’t not encourage your conversation to go in any interesting direction, because the only answer you are probably going to get is “fine” or “fine, how about you?” It surely isn’t the easiest and not the most thought provoking question to answer. Secondly, if you text this question to someone you started dating, it may sound like you are simply bored and you are just trying to start a purposeless and protracted exchange of texts, because you have nothing better to do. Whether it’s true or not is a different question, but the perception that this kind of text creates, especially when received by a person during the day time when he / she is busy is exactly that – “a pain in the as- text message that will open the door to talking about nothing.”
