Although your username alone might not get you to meet the man or the woman of your dreams, having a catchy username for your dating profile that says that you are not just another boring, average Joe, or a female version thereof, is a good idea. Here are a three, simple practical tips on how to choose an intriguing username and just as importantly – how to make sure your username doesn’t make your profile less attractive:
1. Make Sure That Your Profile Username Doesn’t Reduce You to a Certain Interest or Hobby
I am not a fan of usernames that suggest that all there is to you is a certain hobby or a certain interest that you like to engage. This is why I would suggest that you avoid such usernames as “NYCrunner” or “photographyjunkie” or “scubadiver75”, or “mathteacher101”. As fascinating as the underlying activity is, when you make it sound like your life revolves around it, it automatically makes you sound less interesting to many, if not most, of the readers of your profile.
2. Don’t Be Afraid to Use an Abstract Term for your Username
Such usernames as “primitivelogic”, “invinitehorizon”, “originunknown” “appletart”, or “3_olives” or any other abstract words that come from astronomy, biology, geography, philosophy or even the kitchen might not be the most intriguing usernames out there, but they also doesn’t hurt your profile and don’t make you sound lame. A somewhat unclear or mysterious username would also make the reader of your profile want to find out why you chose that kind of username. This makes is all the easier for them to start talking to you. Instead of struggling with how to start talking to you online, they can just begin by asking you what the story is behind your username. After all, they are not used to seeing usernames like that, among all the “travelbug”‘s “JennyRN”s, and “AdventurousSteve”‘s, “SexyLexi”s, and “SmoovPlaya’s”.
3. The Best Usernames Are The Ones That Convey Your Playful Sarcasm and Wit
Not everyone has a skill for coming up with sharp and witty usernames. However, as you watch comedies, or listen to comedians, or read a funny/interesting articles, keep your ears open to hear anything that might inspire you to come up with a great, catchy username. Spend some time to do a little research. Look at other usernames on different dating profiles. See which ones you like and which ones you think are bad, and that will help you figure out a better username for yourself. I don’t suggest you plagiarize, but there is nothing wrong from getting inspiration from the other profiles’ usernames. A few that stood out for me were: “addtoshoppingcart“, “ihatefoodies”, “piratehooker“, “notadinnerwhore“, “virgin-mary“, and “sugarfreedaddy”.

Thanks for your feedback. I will definitely look. I can't think of a more appropriate title for this article, since this is what it is about – how to choose a cool username that's not boring or generic. If you have any suggestions, please do share. 😉
I have seen some ridiculous usernames used by guys. I especially remember too: "sexgod" and "smoothlikebutta". Obviously, I didn't get very far past that and move right on. I don't know why it's not obvious to these guys that these kind of usernames won't get them anywhere.
